Assignment 1 requires the student to conduct a research on 2 GBI certified & recognized
buildings (Malaysia & Singapore) and identify 2 passive design strategies used by the building.Elements such as solar radiation, insulation, ventilation thermal mass & temperature should be considered & analyzed as well as this elements are also important for bringing the building to a next level.

REFLECTION:
In completion of this assignment, I have learned to identify environmental conditions which is
related to site condition, climate, etc. Besides, I understand that passive design is a very
important factor in order to create thermal comfort & a friendly atmosphere in a building. The
orientation of a building according to the sun- path will also help a lot in preventing excess heat
transfer into the building; hence cooling down the building passively. Besides, I now realized
that the use of sun- shading device (either external/ internal) is not only for the usage of blocking
sun radiation, but as well serve as a barrier to adjust the wind load coming into the building in
order to create the most optimum temperature & wind load (to achieve thermal comfort). As you
can see, thermal comfort is so important that all the passive design used were to create a more
comfortable environment in an building for the users; so, designers should always be aware of
the surrounding conditions before designing, this is also where the site analysis comes in help.
