Assignment 1A: On- Site Sketches
Assignment 1A requires the students to look for spaces from anywhere , where 2 have to be from the exterior & another 2 from the interior and submit 2 sketches of each.

After completing the Assignment 1A , i have learned the skill of sketching on- site, not by sketching from a picture. One of the benefits of sketching on- site is that the person sketching can have a wide angle of view of the object/ building. This is not only to train a student to be more observant on things that is happening around them, but also to build up the value of patience in them. Assume that a person who cannot sit still for long hours, that person might find it difficult in the future when he starts to focus in coming up with a design concept as the process of producing a design would take a rather long time.
Besides, the person is able to experience the spatial sequence of the object/ space he is sketching where he can feel the depth of the space by himself, this is what a person can’t experience from sketching through looking at a picture.

Assignment 1B: Tonal Values
Assignment 1B requires the students to produce 4 variations of a tonal value sketch using different rendering techniques, such as hatching, cross- hatching, scribbling & stippling.

REFLECTION:
In completion of Assignment 1B, i have learned that to make a drawing looks rather lively and pops out, rendering is one of the most important element. By using different rendering techniques such as cross- hatching, stippling, etc. , different feelings can be represented through it. I have learned how to tone a sketch with just using points (stippling) & lines (hatching), where the tonal values could be change depending on how close is the space applied between 2 lines hatched. Besides, the depth of the drawing can be clearly shown through rendering where in this case would be the time when the shadow blends into the sketch.
Assignment 2A: Orthographic Projection (Plan, Elevations, Sections)
Assignment 2A requires the students to produce orthographic drawings of a building selected named ‘Barcelona Pavilion’; drawings that should be clearly shown in the A1 presentation board are: 1 site plan, 1 floor plan, 4 elevations & 2 cross- sections with the right scale (1:100)

After completing Assignment 2A, I am now capable of producing professional technical drawings with the correct measurement & scale (1:100). Through these orthographic drawings, we are able to show how deep our understandings are towards the building itself, for instance when we are looking for the measurement of the building through surfing the net, it is common for us to look for as much information as possible; this is when we could understand more about the building (e.g. How thick is the wall/ window panes? Why does it need to be that thick? Does the thickness affect the building? Etc.) When we ourselves do have a really deep understanding towards the building, it is easier for us to show it on the presentation board & the reviewers can understand our work easier.
Besides, through producing these technical drawings, i had learn some specific symbols that are normally used in architecture field, for instance, the thunder like symbol normally used in plan to indicate that there are still a continuous of the object specified, etc. Furthermore, from these assignment, I am introduced to some new terms such as line weights & line qualities where it’s another important element in producing an orthographic drawing and in the meantime realizing that by using different line weights, different depth of the drawings can be clearly shown and the reviewers would be able to visualize the building easily.

Assignment 2B requires the students to produce an A1 presentation board of exploded axonometric drawing of the building selected earlier, ‘Barcelona Pavilion’ with the right scale (1:100).

REFLECTION:
In completion of Assignment 2B, I have learned not only to use the proper tools (set square + T- square) but also to produce a technical drawing of axonometric projection. From this assignment, the students have to be able to communicate their understanding of architectural detail & spatial value with clarity & accuracy, which means that it is necessary for a student to be able to express their ideas in the form of three- dimensional and to show the clarity of spatial values & depth of the building.
Moreover, by producing an exploded version of axonometric drawing, it is rather a benefit to us as well as we have to explode some portions of the building such as the roof, wall, windows, etc and this is when we have to further our research into the materials & the structure of the building. For instance, the wall of ‘Barcelona Pavilion’ is made through a process where marble tiles were set & fixed onto the framework one by one and in order to produce an axonometric which is clear enough for others to understand, we have to explode the walls layer by layer so that the material & wall structure of the building can be visualized.

Assignment 2C requires the students to construct a 1- point perspective (interior) & a 2- point perspective (exterior) inked onto a A1 presentation board.

REFLECTION:
After completing Assignment 2C, I now understand what 1- point & 2- point perspectives are and the differences between them realizing that the way of constructing a 1- point perspective & 2- point perspective is different but similar. Furthermore, I do understand more on some technical terms for perspective drawings such as Ground line (GL), Horizontal Line (HL), Vanishing Point (VP), Station Point (SP), etc and the inter- relations between them; for instance the Station Point determines from which view/ angle one is looking at the object/ building while the height depends on how far away the horizontal line is from the ground line; the closer it is, the lower the eye view while looking at the object/ building. If the HL is placed on top of GL, the perspective drawing should be a bird- eye view but if it’s placed lower that GL, the drawing would be of a worm’s eye view.
Moreover, through this assignment, I realized that perspectives that were produced through sketching is rather different with the perspectives produced using the proper method. In order to produce the perfect perspective drawings, we have to always refer to the floor plan of the building drawn earlier & pull reference lines to the station point so that the view would not look distorted.
